The most economical method of applying "Permatol" to mill-work products consists of dipping the unheated wood in the unheated solution. For the average run of pine sash a 3-minute submersion is sufficient. For other woods and for deeper penetration, longer periods may be necessary. Another method consists of dipping the unheated wood in the preservative heated to 100 or 110'F. Laboratory tests indicate that for equal periods of time in the preservative, this method gives better penetration with "Permatol" than the first method. Brushing or spraying the preservative over the surfaces of the wood product is unsatisfactory if protection of the product over a period of years is desired. Its most useful application is in treating parts of the wood which have been sawed or planed, thus exposing the untreated or lightly treated areas.
