Grinding Procedures: All these carbon inks may be adequately processed by ball milling at 180-200'F for four to eight hours. Compositions containing Milori Blue require the longest periods. Optimum results are obtained by first reducing the vehicle to a liquid state and then adding dyes or pigments.
Mills should be frequently vented to prevent emulsification, and temperatures should be carefully controlled to avoid decomposition.
General Coating Information: Blue Pencil---This type of carbon is generally coated on either 9# or 10# Kraft. On occasion a 10# Sulfite may be used. The coating rod will vary from 5-9 depending upon use intended.
Blue Record---A variety of tissues and rods are used, depending upon the weight and finish desired.
One-Time---These low-cost carbons are generally applied on 9-10# Kraft with either a 0 or 3 rod.
Soluble Blue---These are generally applied with a 6 or higher rod on a better grade of paper. A 9# fifty percent rag or even 15# parchment may be used. Cer
