Heat 400 ml of water to 70 to 70'C. Add the methylcellulose and stir until hydration is effected. Cool to 12'C to ensure complete solution of the methylcellulose. Add remaining ingredients and water to volume and stir until homogenous. this syrup has been improved by adding methyl and propyl parabens USP in the usual concentrations to prevent microbial contamination. The taste may be improved with a combination of artificial sweeteners. Reduce the 27 g of cyclamate sodium to 13.4 g and add 1.34 g of saccharin sodium. When high concentrations of artificial sweeteners are required, it is preferable to use a combination of cyclamate and saccharin.
