Dissolve the potassium hydroxide in the necessary amount of water, heating at 120-130'F. Then add the fatty acids in a slow, steady stream. Agitate during the mixing of the fatty acid and alkali and continue until saponification is complete. heat the reaction mixture at 150-160'F during the final stages of saponification. Check the neutrality of the soap and adjust as necessary. Allow the soap to stand and settle for several days at temperatures near freezing, if possible, and decant or filter the soap. This soap is characterized by its clarity and profuse sudsing. If it clouds onn standing, a trace of sequestering agent (0.1 to 0.5% EDTA) will restore brilliance.
