Bubble in deoxygenated nitrogen until the air in the flask is displaced by nitrogen. Heat the flask and reaction mixture at 210 to 220'C over a wire gauze and hold at this temperature for two to four hours. Allow the mixture to cool, with nitrogen still passing into the system. The result should be a light-yellow, viscous liquid diethylene glycol maleate. Mix this compound with 10 to 30% of monomeric styrene and substitute this mixture for the polyesters used in the following formulas.
