1. Triethanolamine adn oleic acid should be added first into a heavy mixer (e.g. double sigma blade Baker Perkins) and mixed until completely reacted into a clear gellike soap. 2. The resins are then added (heating, if necessary) with continuous mixing. This is followed by the pigments with mixing of the combination, continuing until it is uniform. 3. The major portion of the hydroxymethylcellulose ("Natrosol") solution is then added and agitation continued until a homogeneous oil-in-water emulsion is formed. 4. The remaining portion of the "Natrosol" solution is combined with the latex binder in order to give the latex maximum protection while it is added to the pigmented resin solution. the latexhydroxymethylcellulose solution combination is then slowly added as the final step. 5. the agitation should be stopped as soon as the latex is thoroughly incorporated. the finished mastic should been lined to prevent rust and be packaged in cans that have coagulation of latex.
