3-5% "Elvanol", based on fiber weight, produces highstrength nonwoven fabrics. For use as a ribbon binder, "Elvanol" is generally applied at 8-16% solids add-on. the resin is usually plasticized to promote webbing and prevent splitting of the ribbon during use. Where maximum water resistance is desired, "Evanol" 72-60 or 71-30 is used; in other applications, "Elvanol" 52-22 or 46-22 is preferred.
