they consist of extremely fine suspensions of carbon particles inn a solution of dewaxed shellac in borax. Lampblack is incorporated into the shellac solution by thorough milling and the smooth paste is then diluted to proper consistency. A small amount of glycerine and a preservative are added and the ink let stand for several days to allow carbon particles which have not gone into suspension to settle. The ink is then drawn out. Drawing ink usually contains 10-14% solids of which about half is carbon black and the rest the shellac binder.
