The electrolyte can be used in mild steel tanks, although often it is recommended that plastics lined tanks be used. Immersion or external heaters can be used, with immersion heaters preferred as these cause less turbulence in the solutions and therefore less disturbance of any settled solids.For this reason it is often recommended that the solution be continuously filtered. The decomposition of cyanide and absortion of carbon dioxide from the air lead to a gradual build-up of carbonates in the bath which cam be deleterious in so much as they affect both the anode and cathode.
