Equipment: Three-necked, 250 ml round bottom flask, mantle, stirrer, condenser, thermometer, adapters, addition funnels, and tank of prepurified nitrogen. Prepare fresh solutions of potassium persulfate, surfactant and sodium bicarbonate using boiled, deionized water. Slowly bubble nitrogen through the potassium persulfate solution for 10 min to expel oxygen and set aside in an addition funnel. Charge the prescribed amounts of surfactant and sodium bicarbonate solutions and boiled, deionized water to the reaction vessel. Slowly bubble nitrogen under the surface of the liquid for about 15 min. Add the tert-dodecyl mercaptan and adjust the nitrogen inlet tube just above the surface of the liquid. Adjust the stirrer speed to about 200 rpm. Heat the reaction mixture to 65'C. Then, add 3 ml of the potassium persulfate solution. Continue heating for 10 min. Begin the continuous dropwise addition of monomer and potassium persulfate solution. Adjust the addition rates so that, after 2 h, all of th
