Colors and thickeners ("Vulcastab" T) can be added as required. For balloons, an emulsion of softening agent (for example, 20 parts of a 50% liquid paraffin emulsion) would be added to reduce the modulus and facilitate inflation of the final product. For household gloves, filler (china clay), and some softener would be added.
These two compounds (1 and 2) are identical from the point of view of curing properties. They represent two approaches to the problem of zinc oxide-induced thickening and the maintenance of reasonably constant viscosity in the dipping bath. Both approaches are practical and effective and the choice depends largely on the individual circumstances.
Both compounds are suitable for straight or coagulant dipping, but the second compound is better where very accurate control of viscosity is required.
Easier processing and an improvement in dipped product quality can often be obtained if the liquid dip compound is partially prevulcanized in the
