The polyvinyl acetate is emulsified with an equal volume of water containing the polyvinyl alcohol. The latter acts as an emulsifier. Vinsol resin, dibutyl phthalate, and benzene are dissolved at 55-60'C (130-14-'F). When blending is complete (in about 10-15 min), the solution is slowly stirred into the polyvinyl acetate emulsion. The remaining water is added at the same time. With good agitation, stable emulsions of 45-65 percent solids are readily obtained.
