Optimum frothing is obtainable with a formulation having a viscosity in the range of 4000-6000 cps. Frothing is accomplished with an Oakes mixer. Laboratory froths can be prepared by whipping air into the system using a 1/4-in. drill and paint mixer or a wire whisk attached to a Hobart mixer. When the desired froth density is attained, the froth is spread onto a substrate and dried in a conventional oven at 121-163'C (250-325'F). Drying time will depend on froth thickness and drying temperature.
