Purge water (A) for 20 min with nitrogen. Add the "Abex" surfactant (B) and 25% of the vinyl acetate/SVS mixture (C, D). Purge for another 5 min with nitrogen. Heat the reaction mixture to 55'C and add the potassium persulfate initiator (E). Allow the potassium persulfate catalyst to mix for a few minutes and then add 10% of the sodium bisulfite activator solution (F). When the temperature increases a few degrees, begin the addition of the monomer mixture (C, D) and activator (F) concurrently. Control between 68-72'C for the remainder of the addition period (about 1 h). Heat the latex to 80'C for 1 h. Cool to room temperature and filter.
