Bleaching Recovered Waste Paper (Magazine and Newspaper)

**"Solozone" may be used to replace all or part of the "Albone" and
caustic soda.
The best conditions for applying the peroxide recovery process to
waste newsprint are somewhat different from those described for waste
magazine stock. Because of the higher ground-wood content in waste
newsprint (approximately 85% compared with an approximate average of 35%
in magazine stock), lower alkalinities and lower temperatures (135'F.)
are preferred; also, the washing facilities must be adequate for
handling the lower-freeness stock.
The alkalinity requirements and the temperature conditions in this
process are closely interrelated with the pulping and cooking
operations. The typical formula may, therefore, require some
modification for best adaptation to the local conditions in a specific
mill.
