A solution made from 1 part glycerin and 2 parts water serves as the Preservative for magnolia, beech, eucalyptus leaves and many other tree and shrub materials. Stems are split and placed to a depth of 3 to 5 in. in the glycerin-water solution. Allow to stand for approximately 2 weeks or until they have turned a warm brown in color. Foliage preserved in this way is soft, pliable, and attractive, lasts indefinitely, and can be used in either fresh or dry arrangements.
