This formula contains 12.5% copper. After blending it is broadcast on the lake surface by hand, by towing a burlap bag of the mix behind a boat, or by using a powdered spreader. Dosage: Heavy growth---0.8 lb for each 7500 gal or 1000 ft^3 (1.7 ppm Cu). Lighter growth---0.4 lb for each 7500 gal or 1000 ft^3 (0.8 ppm Cu). Note: The use of copper citrate for control of algae growth in ponds and lakes has several distinct advantages over copper sulfate treatment. 1. Copper citrate is more soluble in alkaline waters. 2. Copper citrate is less toxic to nontarget organisms. 3. Copper citrate is effective over a longer period of time due to a slow release of copper from the citrate complex. 4. Accidental overdose will not readily lead to toxic levels for other aquatic life. The higher cost of the copper citrate system is offset by the lower concentrations required, less frequent application, and safety. There will be a slight increase in BOD.
