In injection rate of 0.5-1.5 lb/s (0.2-0.7 kg/s) and injection pressure of 400-1400 psi (3-10 MPa) worked best. A 3-5 min cycle at 68 C was used although gelation occurred within a few seconds after mixing Parts A and B. Postcuring for up to 2 h at 120 C increased strength and toughness. Note: A two-component RIM compound keeps the diisocyanate and the unsaturated isopolyester polyol separate and extends pot life. A low molecular weight unsaturated isopolyester polyol needs less styrene diluent. This allows styrene to be added to the diisocyanate side to balance the weight ratio and improve mixing. The low viscosity also allows higher filler and reinforcement levels and reduces the likelihood of "washing" glass mats inlaid in molds.
