The EPDM is banded on a tight mill at 82 C (180 F) to 93 C (200 F) for 10 min. An H-300 Polybutene/carbon black slurry is prepared, added in increments and milled 30 min. Zinc oxide and stearic acid are added and dispersed (5-10 min). Resin 18-210 is added and dispersed (5-10 min). Accelerators are added and dispersed (5 min). Sulfur is added and milled for 5 min. Stock is then extruded into 0.5 in. x 0.5 in. tape and cured in a forced draft oven for 24 h before testing. Note: Outstanding ozone and weather resistance suggest this formulation for automotive windshield and "high-rise" curtain wall applications. The compound uses a partially vulcanized ethylene propylene terpolymer extended and plasticized with H-300 Polybutene.
