In the laboratory the polyisobutylene and butyl rubbers are mixed in a dual-arm sigma blade mixer for approximately 20 min. Dry ingredients are incrementally added in the order listed while mixing. The sealant is dumped, rested 24 h, and extruded. Note: Formula No.2 is a polyisobutylene-based tape which offers the high performance of conventional asbestos-containing sealants at a lower raw material cost while eliminating the hazards associated with asbestos. Formula No.3 incorporates butyl rubber. These sealants are suggested for use in metal building systems and automotive applications.
