Tablets containing phenacetin are difficult to compress because the granules dry out in the air. However, the following procedure gives good results: A mixture of 250 g. of phenacetin and 250 g. of acetylsalicylic acid is blended with 1 g. of glycerin and 10 g. of 10% gelatin in alcohol. To this is added a mixture containing Magnesium Oxide/87.5 g. Magnesium Stearate/2.5 g. Codeine Phosphate/10.0 g. Potato Starch/50.0 g.

The entire mixture is sifted and air dried for 0.5 hour before compression. The phenacetin and acetylsalicylic acid must be in crystalline form.
