As an emulsifier in flexible urethane foams, "Surfactol" 365 (0.1%-5.0% on the weight of the polyol used) serves to emulsify the catalyst and the water portion of the formulation, prior to mixing with the polyol and diisocyanate in the foaming machine. The use of "Surfactol" 365 prevents the formation of "hot spots" during foaming due to incomplete emulsification of the water. Being an hydroxyl compound, "Surfactol" 365 also enters into the urethane reaction by chemical cross-linking.
