Gold and silver can be recovered from cyanide stripping solutions by plating out on stainless steel cathodes, or by precipitating with zinc dust. Gold does not dissolve in the concentrated sulfuric acid strip but precipitates, so that recovery is simply a matter of removing the mud. Silver can be precipitated from the sulfuric-nitric acid strip by diluting the strip with water and then adding a sodium chloride solution to precipitate silver chloride.
