The treatment consists of two phases, algaecidal and algistatic. Generally, the addition of 1 gal of a 10% "Hyamine" 2389 solution to each 10,000 gal of water, providing a concentration of 10 ppm, is adequate for algaecidal treatment. this may be added with other water treatment chemicals over a period of several hours to several days. After the algaecidal treatment is complete, dead growth should be removed or the water changed. One gallon of 10% "Hyamine" 2389 solution is added to each 40,000 to 50,000 gallons of make-up water, providing 2-3 ppm "Hyamine" 2389 to prevent further growth. In certain cases, periodic shock treatment may be preferable.
