This is a true deodorant, in contrast to the odor-masking agents sometimes employed. Although the exact mechanism is not understood, effectiveness is believed to be due to an adsorption or chemical fixation of the obnoxious odor. Odors arising from decay and putrefaction are prevented by inhibition of putrefactive organisms. Mopping or spraying of 1000 ppm active solution of "Hyamine" 2389 will generally eliminate the odors of garbage pails, fish, onion, buses, trains, and airplanes may be eliminated without resorting to the use of deodorant blocks or odorous disinfectants which themselves may be offensive.
