Prepare dye solution by dissolving 4 parts oil-soluble dye in 100 parts solvent. Solvent may be V.M.P. Naphtha, Stoddards' Solvent, or similar petroleum fraction. To insure better penetration of dye, 10% carbon tetrachloride or perchloroethylene should be added to the base solvent. Add the unfoamed beads to the dye solution and allow to stand 30 to 60 minutes. Stir the beads two or three times during the soaking period. Drain the solution from the beads. Excess dye on the surface of the beads should be washed off with clear solvent. Allow the solvent to evaporate from the beads. Prefoam the beads to the desired density, fill the mold, and mold as with regular uncolored material. Excessive soaking of the beads in solvent causes decreased expansion; therefore, minimal soaking is suggested.
