"Nadic" methyl anhydride/58 "DB VIII"/5 Epoxy resin (0.5 g per 100 gms)/100

The liquid "DB VIII" should be thoroughly blended with the epoxy resin prior to the addition of the anhydride for best results. A mixture of 100 parts of epoxy resin with 5 parts of DB VIII has a demonstrated shelf life of at least one year. At any time during this period the blend can easily be combined with anhydride and cured at elevated temperatures. Typically one hour at 150'C yields a Barcol hardness of 36 to 40. Continued curing at 150'C will increase the Barcol hardness; eg 24 hours will yield a hardness of 43 to 49. Resultant color of the cured casting will be a pale straw to light yellow compared with a benzyldimethylamine cure in place of the DB VIII which results in a dark orange. Typical heat distortion values at the end of a one hour cure at 150'C would be 105'C. A longer cure time at this temperature, eg 20 hours yields a heat distortion temperature of 144'C.
