Pentaerythritol/60.000 The standard alkyd resin equipment is employed. A 3-neck Pyrex flask equipped with stirrer, thermometer, inert gas inlet, condenser and electric heating mantle. Fusion or solvent cooks may be used. If a solvent cook is employed, blow out all residual xylene near the end of the run. Charge all ingredients and heat to 400'F in about one hour. Hold at 400'F until the acid number drops to 56 to 58. Cool and reduce. The resin may be stored as an 80% solution in a 50:50 mixture of "Dowanol" DPM and n-propyl alcohol. Add the triethylamine to the resin, which should be warm (125-130'F). Stir and add the coupling solvents. Continue stirring while adding the distilled water slowly. Solution will be facilitated if the water is warm (120-130'F). Adjust the final pH to about 7.5 with additional amine if necessary.
