Hydrofluoric Acid by itself, tends to give glass a smooth etch or polish. A monium Bifluoride, in concentrated solution, either by itself, or in combination with Hydrofluoric acid, is used for frosting glass. In dilute solutions, like Hydrofluoric Acid, it will polish glass, and can be used for removing from windows the haze that results from weathering. It should be rinsed completely from the glass to avoid frosting.
