Dissolve the catalyst in the monomer. Combine 100 ml. sodium phosphate solution, 5 ml. "Nacconol" solution and 20 ml. distilled water and heat to 60-70'C. Add 100 ml. calcium chloride solution with stirring and the mixture is heated at 50-70'C. for one hour with occasional stirring. During this period the pH drops from about 9 to about 7. The resulting calcium hydroxyphosphate slurry is cooled to room temperature; add 45 ml. to the catalyst-monomer solution in a 6-oz., soft-drink bottle. The bottle is flushed with nitrogen, capped and placed in a 62'-C., constant-temperature bath. Agitation is provided by rotating the bottle tangentially about a 40-rpm horizontal shaft with the bottle center line about 3.75 inches from the shaft center line. Polymerization is continued at 62'C. for 12 hours, and the reaction mixture is then subjected to steam distillation for about 2 hours to remove unreacted monomer.
