Because of their higher melting points, bis-stearamide are more effective than lower melting products in raising the softening points or in making compounds more resistant to cold flow. Further, these particular waxes are even more impervious to water, acids, alkalies and solvents than the lower melting types. The higher melting waxes are insoluble in nearly all organic solvents at room temperature. Heating improves their solubility in a broad range of solvents. 450 Wax has an exceptionally high melting point (446-460'F.) and exhibits good compatibility with natural waxes, synthetic resins and asphalts. Addition of as little as 6% of 450 Wax to an asphalt having an initial "ring and ball" softening temperature of 190'F. will raise this property to over 400'F. 450 Wax-modified asphalts may be used for extremely inexpensive pipe coatings, protective coatings, sealing compounds and sound deadening products.
