CAUTION---Zinc stearate should not be used for dips or dusting. A solution of talc or soapstone in water makes an effective dip for ELASTOTHANE 640 rubber. If a water dip or spray cooling is used, care must be taken that the stock is completely dry before stacking. Internal Mixing ELASTOTHANE 640 rubber is loaded into the mixer and broken down for several minutes. Add the accelerators and activators, which are then mixed for approximately 1.5 minutes. Next, add the internal lubricants, processing aids and one-half the fillers and mix for about another 1.5 minutes. Finally, add the balance of the fillers and other aids and mix batch for one to two minutes. When the wattmeter and stock temperature have leveled off, the batch is ready to dump. Another indicator is the characteristic "slurping" sound of a good mix. At this point, and if the procedure is followed exactly, stock temperature should not exceed 270'F (132'C).
